About Rita

Rita is a solo-project, or as owner, Mary Ellen Amato calls it, a one-woman-show. She has previously worked at Dimes, Saltie and as executive chef at Court Street Grocers. Now, she has taken her experience to Red Hook, and what was once a prosperous shipping and port area, is now home to Rita and other hip restaurants.

At Rita, Mary Ellen feels responsible to serve her guests not only tasty meals but dishes that will leave them feeling good and satisfied. The goal is to serve healthy but delicious food and to create a space based on values rather than a concept. And the mix of locals and Red Hook-explorers gives the cafe an amazing vibe.
